In Coraline's/ Geraldine's adventurous game, he was seen in a place at the park where he was just standing with his cane. When the girl asked him, if she can have his crane, he appologized to her, and said, that it is the only thing that is keeping him stand up. As she brought him a chair, that he may sit on it, only then the old man would give her his crane.
